Hi everyone I'm hoping someone can help me because I don't completely understand this whole virtual desktop thing. I've got it working on my computer, but I don't remember how I did it, and now I have to get it working on other Macs in my office. Our hospital system uses Citrix to access applications on the hospital server. We're using an application called Cerner Powerchart as the hospital's electronic medical record. The process is as follows: I log into a web portal (physician.ahss.org). The next screen that comes up is a web page and in the middle is a rectangular area with several application icons including Powerchart.
I click on Powerchart, and it launches the Citrix web client. This where I'm not sure how the magic happens. I think that at one point I installed a mac version of the Citrix web client, but I'm not sure what was installed. When I search my hard drive, I find a file 'CitrixICAClientPlugIn.plugin' in my Library folder. In any case, I went to the Citrix site to download the mac web client, but the only thing I get is Citrix Receiver. Is this the web client? When I installed Citrix receiver on one of the Macs, it's a separate application rather than a plug in.
What is going on here? Can someone help me understand what I should install and how I can get this to work? When I call the hospital IT help desk, they just tell me that they don't support Macs.
They're a bunch of dweebs. Receiver is a standalone app; the plugin works instead within a browser like you've seen on the Windows PC. That's what's 'going on.' Presumably either method of access could get you where you need to go. Receiver appears to be a free client app but you need 10.6 and the Mac App store to snag it. If your existing plugin isn't current delete it or at least remove it and install a new one and try it, via the same URL you'd use normally. I downloaded the plugin there (middle of page, 'Web access' ) but noticed they misnamed the file by calling it literally 'CitrixOnlinePlug-inweb112.dmg attachment' (with the quotes!) Change the filename to get rid of everything aft of the.dmg extension.

They're a bunch of dweebs. Actually, the company has an approved vendor (Citrix) they've chosen not to support, because it's Citrix who makes the software you need.

The Mac is merely their excuse not to do their job and support you. I realize I'm not telling you something you don't already know.
Many of us have been there, too. In a perfect world, IT departments could easily isolate problems unrelated to the initial user complaint but even for (or perhaps especially for) Windows, when a user complains about not being able to access the Citrix server and it winds up being their OS is hosed, they know how to handle the entire PC. But not knowing how to handle the entire Mac means they won't touch any part of it, either, such as doling out an ounce of info here.
